9/29(一)
Last Saturday, I went to Santa Monica with Nicole, Jill, Nero and Dayne.
The weather was unexpectedly cool and foggy.
We rode the bicycles for a 24-mile round trip from Santa Monica to Grand Avenue .
At the beginning, it was fun because I hadn’t ridden a bicycle for a long time.
However, when we seemed to never reach the goal and my feet were very sore,
it was not interesting anymore. I had to force myself to move on.
And then, after I finally rode back to Santa Monica ,
I felt a release, but was exhausted. While we were walking to the third street,
we ran into a famous host on a TV show with a famous dog.
We were so excited and took the pictures with them.
Now I believe that you may encounter anyone in LA. We were so lucky!
9/30(二)
I went to bed early last night, but I still felt sleepy today.
I didn’t have power, even taking Power English class. I’m just kidding.
I think I’ve been getting used to the life in LA because I feel like time flies everyday.
I just arrived in LA on September 19th. At the beginning,
I felt I didn’t have time and energy to finish my homework after finishing the class,
cooking for Nicole and Nero, answering their questions about English,
washing the clothes, and writing messages for my friends in Taiwan .
By contrast, I make them more effectively now, so I’m also happier than before.

Because of Lisa’s requirement,
our class needs to practice the impromptu speech a lot in Power English from now on.
She wants us to do more preparation for next semester or anything else.
I’m always afraid of speaking, especially impromptu.
I had taken a speech class when I was the third year at the university.
That was a nightmare for me because I was really not good at speaking in front of
many people. Although I’m nervous, I try to look on the bright side.
Maybe it’s good time to practice my speaking and gain my courage.
When we had the impromptu speech today,
a classmate picked out a topic Compare the Sugar and the Fat from many topics.
She was confused about the two things, me too.
I think it’s a difficult topic to explain their difference.
Luckily, I picked out a simple topic that just described my family member’s
appearance and personality.
10/2/08(四)
After finishing the class,
Nicole and I went to a supermarket Longs Drugs for buying the drinking water.
There was the sale of 24 bottles per carton for 3.99 dollars, so both of us bought it.
However, when we went back the school,
we found there was an item CRV costs 1.20 dollars.
At first, we thought the clerk miscounted, so we went back to find out.
One clerk said that it is a rule in California to charge a CRV from the bottled water
and we can recycle the bottle to get some money.
Maybe it is a way of encouraging people to do recycling.
Anyway, I learned something new today about CRV.

In Power English class, Jennifer divided us into two speech groups.
One of my group’s topics is
“ If a company wants to invest some money in the environment and in art,
which one would you choose?”
Most of us chose the environment because we thought the environment was vital.
If the environment is bad, we don’t have the good place to play movies or the
beautiful scenery to take the pictures. When I was in Taiwan ,
I always recycled classified garbage.
However, I don’t know how to do it in America,
because there is only one kind of trash can at school.
I felt guilty when I threw my garbage into the trash can.
ps. After my writing teacher checked my diary, she said California sorts the trash
at the dump for recycling.
